Innovative Patient Education at UKHD: AI Robot Temi Introduces Broad Consent

No quod sanctus instructior ius, et intellegam interesset duo. Vix cu nibh gubergren dissentias. His velit veniam habemus ne. No doctus neglegentur vituperatoribus est, qui ad ipsum oratio. Ei duo dicant facilisi, qui at harum democritum consetetur.
Innovative Patient Education at UKHD: AI Robot Temi Introduces Broad Consent

At Heidelberg University Hospital (UKHD), patient education is taking a new path: since the summer, the service robot temi has been available in the Department of General Internal Medicine and Psychosomatics. This innovative approach aims to inform patients about the Broad Consent of the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII) — an extended consent form for the use of medical data in research.

How temi Introduces Broad Consent

As soon as patients sit in the waiting area, the friendly robot temi appears and begins an automated introduction to the concept of Broad Consent. On its screen, temi plays an informative video that clearly explains the key aspects of Broad Consent. Accompanying this, temi provides a written consent form and a list of frequently asked questions on a small tray. If a patient has more in-depth questions, staff at the reception desk are always available to address individual concerns.

Efficient and Accessible – temi’s Initial Feedback

Since the robot’s introduction in the summer, temi has educated around 20 patients about Broad Consent. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive: only two patients declined to give their consent. Even older patients, who may have less experience with digital technologies, quickly adapt and appreciate the robot’s assistance. Temi is proving to be an accessible and patient-friendly bridge to modern medical research.

Temi Guides Patients – Even to Blood Tests

In addition to providing information, temi is already programmed to offer further support in daily clinical routines. For example, it guides patients to blood tests, providing direction and assistance through clear, pre-programmed sequences.

Artificial Intelligence as a Support in Clinical Routine

The service robot temi vividly demonstrates how artificial intelligence can improve and make clinical routines more patient-friendly. It offers standardized, yet still personal, patient education. Temi highlights how modern technology can be integrated effectively into patient services to simplify medical routines and increase patient satisfaction. Innovations like this create new ways to make information more accessible and understandable — an approach that could have a lasting impact on communication in healthcare.
