The Junior Research Group (JRG) IMPETUS has now its own presence on the HiGHmed website:

IMPETUS stands for ”Integrating Multimedia-Objects and PACS Environments into Universal Knowledge Management Systems”.

Imaging procedures - with regard to patient care and research - play a decisive role in today's medicine. However, only the data of certain modalities (e.g. MRI, CT, ultrasound) or clinical areas (e.g. radiology, cardiology) are stored in central systems. The majority of data is either not stored in an IT system at all or is only available in departmental and special systems and then usually not in a standardised form.

The JRG IMPETUS, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), aims to integrate medical multimedia data in data integration centres and use them for research and patient care.

Background:
Well-trained professionals are a key success factor of the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII). For this reason, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research is providing supplementary funding of around 30 million euros (2020-2026) to 21 junior research groups as a substructure for newly established medical informatics professorships. The junior research groups are to support the professorships and be integrated into the work at the universities. This makes the forward-looking research field in Germany attractive for scientists.
