HiGHmeducation Modul

The new module "Biomedical semantics, information retrieval and knowledge discovery" of the HiGHmed-partner University of Cologne and ZB MED (Information Center Life Sciences in Cologne) will be offered in English as part of HiGHmed-Lehre starting in the summer semester 2022.

The deadline for registration is 23 March 2022.

This lecture aims to introduce students with no prior knowledge to the world of Semantic Web and Linked Data, with a special focus on biomedical knowledge and resources. Students will learn how to use data in just such a way that it is readable and processable by humans and machines.

Semantics is used, for example, to give labels and meanings to data. Implementing semantics requires specific formats and standards to make the data usable by the general public and to ensure interoperability.

Background:
The module is one of eleven modules offered by HiGHmeducation.
Digitization in medicine is changing professional life across the healthcare sector. Professionals and students need an offer for flexible and demand-oriented education and training. This is where the HiGHmed certificate program comes in. The modular structure allows for a specific selection of topics, and the design of the online courses allows for individual scheduling. All modules can be taken independently of each other and certified with a certificate of achievement. If all modules of a certificate group have been successfully completed, the participants receive a HiGHmed certificate.

The HiGHmed certificate program is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research as part of the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII). The modular teaching is intertwined with the academic curricula of various healthcare professions. Graduates are therefore assured of gaining valuable skills in a challenging and professionally up-to-date certificate program. The HiGHmeducation certificate program is part of the activities of the HiGHmed Consortium to strengthen medical informatics within the MII.
