News from the CAEHR project

On this page we inform about current developments and achieved project goals from the CAEHR research project.

In 2022, the main milestones in the project plan were realised. In the various work packages, architectures for data transmission were finalised, user interfaces were designed and adapted, data protection templates were drafted, needs analyses were conducted, laws were researched and standards for IT security were collected. With the completion of the key performance indicators, which are particularly relevant for stakeholders and patient representatives, the parameters that have a significant influence on the evaluation have now been defined.

Because data protection is an important issue in CAEHR, the data protection forms were discussed with the patient representatives. Their questions about the protection of patient data motivated the project coordination to consider other professional groups involved, such as GPs (general practitioners), and their potential access to the project-specific electronic files in the further course of the project.

Furthermore, aspects were discussed in 2022 that are not the core subject of the project, but which illustrate the potential of CAEHR. For example, conclusions can be drawn from the analyses in the use cases on how the interprofessional and intersectoral cooperation of therapeutic teams can function better. Use Case B "Rehabilitation after heart surgery" can be mentioned here as an example:

"In this case, the rehabilitation clinics expect that digitalisation will not only reduce the time and effort required to obtain information, but will also enable more binding and comprehensive communication with acute clinical contact persons, which will improve the quality of further patient care", says Dr. Susanne Brunner, head physician of cardiology at the Fallingbostel Clinic.

In addition, based on the positive assessments of the study project by the ethics committees involved, the recruitment of the first test subjects could be realised.

2023 | What happens next?

For 2023, the project plan foresees the establishment of a platform for reproducible analyses. This means that the analyses are to be documented and communicated in such a way that other researchers can better understand the procedure and replicate the results. In addition, the coordination of interfaces and data models must be finalised. For this purpose, the national and international developments on the standardisation of health data will be taken into account.

Finally, the aim is to recruit further test persons in all use cases so that the study data relevant to the success of the project can be generated at all participating university locations (Berlin, Göttingen, Hanover, Würzburg).
