Use Case Cardiology

The HiGHmed Use Case Cardiology has successfully enrolled first patients in the cardiology sub-study and has equipped them with smart wearables.

Using a smartphone and an application, patients document their health parameters such as weight and blood pressure and answer questions about their quality of life. In addition, a smartwatch is used to measure their heart rate and their physical activity (pedometer).

These data are transmitted to the Medical Data Integration Centre at the respective location and are analysed there. It should be emphasized that the integration of the data from the smart wearables into the MeDICs enables an analysis in the context of the data from routine clinical care. In the long term, this should make it possible to detect indications of an imminent acute deterioration in heart failure at an early stage and improve the patients´ quality of life.

In total, 310 smart wearable sets will be given to patients at all sites of the Use Case Cardiology nationwide.

These are the sites of the HiGHmed Use Case Cardiology:
University Hospital Heidelberg, University Medical Center Göttingen, Hannover Medical School, University Hospital Würzburg, University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (Kiel), Carl-Thiem-Klinikum Cottbus and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin.
