The possibilities of artificial intelligence (AI) are topics that are currently of concern to many people in the research field and also in public. But what is AI, what role does data play and what do the changes caused by the use of AI mean for medicine in particular?

Katja Weber talks about this with Prof. Dr Helena Zacharias and Prof. Dr Dr Sabine Salloch. While Prof. Zacharias as a data scientist investigates the possibilities of using AI for a better understanding of biomedical processes, Prof. Salloch deals with the ethical and social aspects that the use of AI in medicine entails. Both research and teach at the Hannover Medical School (MHH).

Prof. Salloch heads the Institute for Ethics, History and Philosophy of Medicine at the MHH. Her research focuses on the ethical implications of digitization in medicine. Together with other partners, she is conducting research on ethical issues in AI-based decision support in routine and emergency care in the DESIREE project (Decision Support in Routine and Emergency Health Care: Ethical and Social Implications), which is funded by the BMBF.
