Today, a new episode of the podcast 'DigitalisationDerMedicine' was published!

What is it about?

With modern technologies, complex molecular data can be captured. This provides information on the molecules of an individual organism. The molecular data has the potential to direct medical diagnostics and therapy more specifically to the personal characteristics of an individual and their disease. This makes personalised medicine possible.

Especially in the field of cancer treatment, this creates a variety of new therapy options. However, in order for this data to bring added value and be used to generate knowledge, it must be suitably processed and presented for clinicians.

This is where the work of Prof. Dr. Dr. Melanie Börries and her research group comes in. Melanie Börries is Professor of Medical Bioinformatics and Director of the Institute for Medical Bioinformatics and Systems Medicine at the University Hospital Freiburg. She is also the spokesperson for the Freiburg Molecular Tumour Board.

In this episode, podcaster Katja Weber talks to her about what exactly molecular data is and how it can be used for diagnostics and therapy. She also talks about interdisciplinary cooperation in #cancer therapy and the important role that the funding of young scientists plays in this field.
