New Institute for Medical Informatics: Prof. Dugas moves to Heidelberg

Prof. Dr. Martin Dugas - a physician and computer scientist – has been director of the new Institute of Medical Informatics at the University Hospital Heidelberg as of May 1, 2021. He worked for 16 years at the Westfälische-Wilhelms-Universität in Münster - especially as professor and managing director at the Institute of Medical Informatics.

From digital health, medical data models, patient-centered decision support to the digitization of teaching and the Medical Data Integration Center: the main areas of research of the new institute in Heidelberg are highly relevant as the importance of informatics for medicine is continuously increasing due to digitization. The field of medical informatics ranges from basic research and research with patient data to the development of digital therapy support systems.

Not only does the Heidelberg University Hospital benefit from the new Medical Informatics Institute headed by Prof. Dr. Martin Dugas, but also the entire HiGHmed team as well as the Medical Informatics Initiative throughout Germany.
