New impulses through inspiring HiGHmed Symposium in Berlin:
Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for interoperable and scalable data infrastructures within healthcare has become even more apparent. National and regional governments address these challenges by introducing open platforms, a novel paradigm to enable the data flow required to harness the full potential of big data in medicine.
To underline the importance of these open platforms, and to provide examples of novel implementations to political stakeholders and the health IT community, we dedicated our this year’s HiGHmed Symposium to openEHR and FHIR.
The symposium with the title „Digitalization in the healthcare system: openEHR and FHIR – friends or foes?“ brought together experienced experts in the field of medical informatics and offered an opportunity to exchange information with international colleagues. The goal of this symposium was to promote a complementary view of openEHR and FHIR as well as to demonstrate the synergies of both standards.
This goal was definitely achieved. We look back on a highly interesting, inspiring day full of insightful presentations, interesting questions and important discussions with almost 400 participants virtually and on site.
