Dr. Antje Wulff has been appointed assistant professor for "Big Data in Medicine" at the Department of Health Services Research of Faculty VI Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Oldenburg. The assistant professorship is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
Born in Oldenburg, she completed her studies in Business Information Systems in cooperation with IBM Deutschland GmbH at the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University in Stuttgart. She already dealt with Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing as part of her bachelor's thesis. After successfully graduating at the top of her class, she transferred to the Technical University of Braunschweig to continue her Master's studies, specialising in medicine and health at the Peter L. Reichertz Institute for Medical Informatics of TU Braunschweig and Hannover Medical School. Even before completing her studies, she began working as a research assistant at the PLRI at the Hannover Medical School in the areas of clinical decision support, semantic interoperability standards, reuse of clinical data and clinical data repositories.
She laid the foundation for her further scientific work in collaboration with the Department of Paediatric Cardiology and Intensive Care Medicine at the Hannover Medical School (MHH) with her Master's thesis on the topic of "Design of a knowledge-based system for early detection of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) in paediatric intensive care". After completing her Master's degree, she obtained her doctorate in 2021 on "Cross-Institutional and Data-Driven Decision-Support for Intensive Care Environments".
The 29-year-old's research focuses include digital applications for clinical decision support that implement diagnostic and predictive models for various disease patterns based on health data. Wulff is also involved in the extraction, standard-based modelling and representation, integration and analysis of routine medical data. The standardised data flow between different systems and institutions as well as knowledge management in medicine are also among Wulff's interests.
As deputy project manager, she works, among other things, in the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG)-funded ELISE project, in which new correlations between different paediatric diseases are uncovered and diagnostic models are developed by combining and analysing large intensive care data sets.
