PrivateAIM Retreat in Bad Urach

PrivateAIM (Privacy-Preserving Analytics in Medicine) demonstrates that data protection and medical research are not mutually exclusive.

With FLAME, their platform for federated and privacy-preserving analytics and AI, they are creating an innovative approach to using medical data — without the need to centrally aggregate sensitive patient information.

Their goal: To gain valuable insights from health data and enable research while ensuring the best possible protection of patient privacy.

In doing so, PrivateAIM makes an important contribution to improving patient care and sets new standards in data protection.

Research and privacy protection: FLAME combines both to enable better, safer, and more responsible medicine.

PrivateAIM, through the FLAME platform, has developed a solution for analyzing medical data that has already been piloted at four test sites. The next goal is to deploy the platform at additional participating university hospitals and their data integration centers — an effort that will bring the mentioned benefits to all involved.

At the most recent PrivateAIM Retreat (October 8–10, 2025) in Bad Urach, the focus — alongside exchanging work package results and experiences with FLAME — was on testing the platform through specific use cases. For now, three use cases have been defined, and several sites will soon join the pilot operations within dedicated task forces.
