What’s Going On in the Gut? – When Data Science Meets Microbiome Research

Our gut microbiome – the community of all bacteria in the human digestive tract – plays a central role in our health and nutrition. But analyzing these highly complex omics data requires modern bioinformatics methods and strong data literacy.

In the latest podcast episode, Katja Weber talks with Dr. Mattea Müller from the Peter L. Reichertz Institute for Medical Informatics (PLRI) about how data science can help us better understand nutrition and the microbiome – and what opportunities this opens up for personalized nutrition concepts.

Dr. Müller also presents the program MINT Meets Medicine (M³):
An exciting training and networking initiative that offers students and doctoral candidates in STEM and health-related fields a hands-on introduction to data science.

Whether through online formats or intensive in-person workshops – the goal is to build bridges between disciplines and open up new perspectives for digital medicine. M³ is funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space as part of the research focus Future #eHealth.
