Day 1 at the NUM Convention 2024!
Today and tomorrow, guests from medicine, science, politics and business will come together in Berlin to talk about the successes and future challenges of the Network of University Medicine (NUM). We from the HiGHmed PMO & HiGHmed Association team are on site!
The event began with a welcome address by the Chairman of the Board of Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Prof Dr Heyo K. Kroemer, who invited us on a "short virtual journey through time" and described the structure of the NUM at the beginning of the COVID pandemic in 2020. In his speech, he described the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII) and the NUM as a "perfect match between the two institutions", with the common goal of "supporting high-quality clinical research with good data".
The presentation by Prof. Dr Dagmar Krefting and Prof. Dr Jörg Janne Vehreschild, in which they offered the audience a creative summary of the progress of the NUM projects NAPKON and NUKLEUS, also received a great deal of applause.
After the lunch break, State Secretary Judith Pirscher from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) emphasised in her speech: "We can do much more" and acknowledged the great success of the NUM and that the "current good basis is only the beginning". She also pleaded for more co-operation and less competition.
