The cooperation between HiGHmed e.V., System Vertrieb Alexander GmbH (SVA) and Medblocks aims to optimize the seamless integration between HL7/FHIR and openEHR – especially with regard to the MII core dataset - and thus to simplify and promote tight interaction between the existing IT infrastructures of large data networks like HiGHmed, Medical Informatics Initiative (MII) and Network University Medicine (NUM). With this approach, FHIR as a transport model for clinical data is ideally complemented with the high-resolution semantics of a central openEHR-compatible data storages, that are already in use by several HiGHmed members.

As main part of the collaboration, the already existing and openly available FHIR Bridge, a software adapter to connect FHIR and openEHR, will be subject to comprehensive modifications. This will improve configurability and reusability of mappings between openEHR and FHIR, using FHIR Connect mapping specification to reach a declarative setup and easy exchange within a broad user community.

The collaboration of HiGHmed e.V., SVA and Medblocks reflects the common goal of the partners to create an open and cooperative digital health landscape that is based on proven standards and promotes innovation in the healthcare sector. For this reason, the results of the collaboration will be made available to the community under Apache 2.0 open-source license.
